The Quality Assurance Framework Act (QSRG) entered into force on 29 July 2011, establishing a common legal framework for external quality assurance at public universities, universities of applied sciences (FH) and private universities.
The Act contains amongst others a new Act on Quality Assurance in Higher Education (HS-QSG) as well as a comprehensive amendment of the University of Applied Sciences Studies Act (FHStG), the Private Universities Act (PUG), amendments of the Education Documentation Act (BidokG), the Health Care and Nursing Act (GuKG), the Midwifery Act (HebG) and of the Clinical Technical Services Act (MTD).
In a related development, the Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation Austria (AQ Austria) was established for the entire higher education sector as of 1 March 2012. The responsibilities previously held by he Austrian Quality Assurance Agency (AQA), the Austrian FH Council (FHR) and the Austrian Accreditation Council for Private Universities (ÖAR) were transferred to AQ Austria.
