International Affairs

AQ Austria is an internationally oriented quality assurance agency, fulfilling its tasks on a national as well as an international level.

The developing European Higher Education Area (EHEA) requires quality assurance at higher education institutions (HEIs) to be conducted according to the European Standards and Guidelines (ESG) and on the basis of international co-operations. From the beginning, AQ Austria has emphasised its international profile and considered participation in the improvement of quality assurance at a European level as well as the co-operation with other quality assurance agencies and stakeholders as equally necessary and understood. This facilitates European and international recognition of Austrian HEIs and the awarded degrees.

AQ Austria aligns its international commitment with strategic considerations, which are summarised in an internationalisation strategy (PDF).

In agreement with its international recognition, AQ Austria also offers to conduct accreditation or audit procedures as well as advisory projects to HEIs abroad. AQ Austria sees it as understood that its commitment works towards facilitating international co-operation rather than following economic considerations.

Generally, AQ Austria offers its expertise to all interested HEIs. In its internationalisation strategy (PDF), however, the agency constituted that in conducting quality assurance procedures abroad, priority is given to German-speaking countries, countries from the Balkan region and Central Asian countries.

At its meeting of 18/19 June 2014 in Madrid, the Board of ENQA agreed to reconfirm AQ Austria's full membership of ENQA.

As of 3 June 2013, the Accreditation Council decided on AQ Austria's certification for conducting system and programme accreditation in Germany. Further information on procedural rules and activities can be found here. (in German)

As of 6 February 2013, AQ Austria was authorised as accreditation agency by the Kazakh Ministry of Education and is now allowed to conduct accreditation procedures in Kazakhstan. Further information on procedural rules and activities can be found here.
