RPL in Malta
Malta does not have legal provisions which regulate RPL in higher education. They have guidelines published in May 2021 entitled- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)- Definitions, Principles and Guidelines. These are also called soft laws which in the absence of a legislation provide a framework for providers to establish RPL policies within these guidelines. Malta Further and Higher Education Authority is the only entity at a national level entrusted to work and promote RPL in Malta.
Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA )
No national network exists on RPL. In Malta the concept of RPL is quite new and used in a limited way by a limited number of institutions. Forming part of a European network is an excellent opportunity to establish the necessary contacts and to get a clear idea how RPL is being applied in different countries. At the moment they would like to learn how other networks operate at a national level. In the eventual setting up of a network, it will be the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA) responsible for its setting up and overall organization.
